Strategy & Services: Planet Labs designs, builds, and launches earth imaging satellites to record time-lapse changes to the environment. This technology and service allows agencies and organizations to track analytics of illegal deforestation and ecosystem changes? for?the meaningful stewardship of our planet. When the innovative aerospace firm needed a values-aligned partner to build their new 100,000 SF San Francisco headquarters, they chose stok.?As Project Manager, stok helped execute the build-out to co-locate all of Planet Lab’s functional needs to be efficient and effective: light manufacturing, R&D laboratory, and commercial offices for 200?employees.
Project Details: Planet Labs’ Facilities Manager engaged stok?after the design phase to address significant project challenges: construction estimates that exceeded their budget,? lease requirements and base building conditions that necessitated strict monitoring, and a schedule that required team cooperation to?move the project forward. As Project Manager, stok led the team through a value engineering exercise to bring the project back?on target. stok’s Project Management team helped the client communicate effectively with the landlord,?architect, and general contractor, and successfully transitioned the project from early design into construction. Once in construction, efforts to maintain schedule were?constant?and required in depth?problem solving. Ultimately, Planet Labs was?overjoyed with their new space despite having to navigate a very challenging set of circumstances.

Outcome: Planet Labs’ new San Francisco headquarters celebrates design components that converge to create a highly personalized and values-aligned space. Homing in on the occupant experience, the office features a gracious, branded entry experience, a museum space to display satellites, and satellite-produced wall graphics throughout. Prioritizing employee health and wellness, the space also incorporates a mothers room and wellness room, as well as a perimeter sound wall to dampen noise from the adjacent freeway, creating a productive acoustical environment. Finally, with the company’s focus on agility and adaptability, the project installed 17 phone rooms and 12 conference rooms, a large all-hands space with a folding LaCantina operable partition, and a new fire riser system. stok is proud of the entire project team for its flexibility and positive approach to challenges, and is happy to have helped deliver a versatile and aligned space for this exciting and innovative organization.
