Strategy & Services: Workday set out to create a high performance workplace with its new corporate headquarters. The 6-story, 410,000 square foot headquarters is the focal point of Workday’s 8-building Pleasanton campus and a center for collaboration in support of Workday’s number one core value: employees. stok was brought on by the company to lead Workday’s LEED Platinum certification efforts, aligning innovative sustainability strategies with the company’s innovative culture.
Project Details: stok worked closely with Point Energy Innovations and the rest of the project team to identify high performance features and strategies to achieve rigorous LEED Platinum standards. The building is designed to maximize daylight and views to support the well-being, productivity, and creativity of its 2,200 Workday occupants while reducing energy consumption. To supplement energy conservation measures and on-site renewables, stok coordinated with Workday to align their Corporate Renewables Procurement Strategy with LEED guidelines.
With the guidance of Point Energy Innovations and stok, the project:
? Saves 720,000 gallons of potable water annually through a greywater system that recycles water captured from sinks, showers, and excess rainwater on-site
? Produces 54% of the energy it consumes from an on-site 865 kW photovoltaic system
? Reduced energy costs by 56% from baseline due to high-efficiency HVAC system design and on-site renewables
? Achieved all LEED Energy & Atmosphere points
? Diverted 85% of construction waste
? Provides onsite electronic waste, recycling, and compost bins on every floor
? Uses a “cool roof” to mitigate urban heat island effect
? Offers 45+ electric vehicle charging stations and secure storage for 100+ bicycles to support clean air commuting
The project team used strong partnerships with Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and the City of Pleasanton to create a transit-oriented development that would attract talent from the greater Bay Area while reducing the project’s transit-related carbon footprint. Through this deep collaboration, Workday’s headquarters connects directly to the West Dublin/Pleasanton BART station via a green walkway with native plants.
To communicate these sustainability achievements to the building’s users, stok coordinated the integration of a Lucid dashboard into the project to provide ongoing sustainability education and real-time building data, helping Workday employees become better stewards of their environment.
“At Workday, we’re passionate about the environment and are committed to doing our part to address climate change. With this project, the stok team brought considerable expertise in sustainable building practices and thoughtful guidance throughout each phase of design to help us reach our goal and achieve the highest level of LEED certification possible for our Workday headquarters.”
